Education Programs

We want YOU! Our shelter offers great educational opportunities with information about responsible pet ownership, breed information, job opportunities for animal lovers, and more! We would love for a shelter representative to come to your classroom or gathering. Or you can come visit us! Spend some time with the shelter animals, while you learn about a typical day at the S.P.C.A. Phone the shelter at 780-875-2809 to set up your next educational program. Your knowledge can help reduce the number of homeless animals!

Shelter Tours
A tour of the shelter starts with an information session explaining the details of the S.P.C.A. and what we do. After this presentation, we then take a tour through the shelter, and show some of the 'behind the scenes' details. Tours are a great way for people to learn why the Lloydminster area needs an S.P.C.A., and understand how the shelter operates. Shelter tours can be booked for groups by contacting Shelly Zimmerman at the shelter with the details.

Classroom Presentations
Big or small, we will educate them all! Classroom or group presentations can be prepared for any age group, and can cover a wide range of topics, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, responsible pet ownership, and more. Contact Shelly Zimmerman at the shelter to arrange your presentation.

Shelter Programs

Pet Sponsorship Program
For just $10.00 per month you can sponsor the animal of your choice. You help provide food, treats, toys, bedding and vet care. You will be recognized as that pets Helping Paw Partner.  For more information click here.

Dog Walk Program
This is our primary "hands on" program where volunteers work directly with the animals. This program was developed to improve the quality of life for the dogs staying at the Shelter. A dog that is walked and has social interaction every day is healthier, happier, and more likely to be adopted.

Cat Cuddlers Program
This program involves socializing with shelter cat during their stay at the facility. The Lloydminster & District SPCA volunteers play with, grooms, and gives our furry friends the love and affection they need. Did you know the sound of purring has been proven to reduce strees and provide relaxation?

Shelter Services

Poundkeeper Services

The Lloydminster & District S.P.C.A. takes in and finds homes for stray pets from a huge area!  We serve close to 80 communities. We are an impound facility for stray, abandoned, or neglected animals within these communities. This means that we accept animals from Bylaw Officers, as well as members of the public, from many areas surrounding Lloydminster. If you have found a stray animal, please phone the shelter before arriving. We will need to gather some information, including exact location where the animal was found.

If you have lost your pet, please phone us! Please keep in mind that it can take animals days even weeks to enter our facility so please call back and check in frequently. We keep all stray animals in our facility for a minimum of three days, to give owners a chance to claim their lost pets.

We do take animals released by their owners when we have space. Our first priority is to provide shelter to those animals who do not have homes. If you are in a position that you have to release your animal to us, please call the shelter at 780-875-2809 to see if we are able to take them before you bring them to us. If we can't take the animal, we will do our best to help you find another alternative.

Please keep in mind, there is a fee to release your animal to us: $90.00  per dog that is unaltered, $55.00 for a altered dog and $65.00 per unaltered cat, $50.00 for a altered cat. The SPCA also has a vaccination policy in place for any owned animals released to us: you must provide documentation from a veterinarian to prove the animal has been vaccinated within the year, but no less than 14 days before the animal enters the shelter. Without this, we will not take your animal.

Having a pet is a big responsibility, not to be taken lightly. Sometimes, a percieved problem can be fixed with the right actions. If we can offer any advice to you that would allow you to keep your pet, we would be glad to so. Simply call and we will do all we can to help, even if we cannot take your animal at that time.

We Do NOT Pick Up Stray Pets

The shelter does not pick up stray animals in any circumstance, because we do not have an impound officer on staff. If you are within the City of Lloydminster, and you see a stray dog, call the City Bylaw Officer at 780-875-6184, or the RCMP if it is an "after hours" emergency.  If you can catch the animal and keep it overnight, we will be happy to take the animal when we open. If you are outside of Lloydminster call your community office. Many communities employ officers who will pick up the pet, and bring it into our shelter.

Animal Cruelty Complaints

If you would like to make a animal cruelty complaint you will need to contact either the Alberta SPCA hotline or the Saskachewan SPCA hotline. The Lloydminster & District SPCA does not deal with complaints because we do not have an animal protection officer on staff.

Alberta SPCA Hotline 1800-455-9003
Saskatchewan SPCA Hotline 1877-382-7722 or 1306-382-7722
