Myths About Spaying & Neutering

Adoption Policies

We love to see our animals get adopted into loving homes. To ensure that the pets are properly cared for and the adoption is a success, the Lloydminster and District S.P.C.A. follows these policies:

1. All animals adopted from our facility must be spayed or neutered.

2. Our animals receive a health exam at the time of their vaccinations, however, they have not been examined by a veterinarian. We offer a free medical exam at participating vet clinics within 7 days of the adoption.

3. There is a 14 day trial period from the date of adoption, in which the animal can be returned to the shelter without any additional cost to the new owner. After the trial period, an owner release fee applies to return the animal to the shelter. Original adoption fees are not refunded, so please make your choice wisely!

4. We do not adopt animals out as presents. If you would like this pet to be a gift, we do offer gift certificates that way the person who will be caring for the animal can choose a pet that is suitable for them.

5. No one under the age of 18 years may adopt an animal. Picture identification is required for all adoptions.

6. You should understand the time commitment involved in owning an animal. If a problem arises with the animal, the S.P.C.A. should be contacted before the animal is re-homed.

7. The S.P.C.A. staff reserves the right to refuse adoption where they see fit, for any reason, at any time.

Our adoption contracts are legally binding, and must be signed at the time of adoption. Please read over the points carefully before you sign, for the sake of our animals!

Adoption and Owner release fees only offset the costs we incur while caring for animals in transition. When you adopt an animal from the Lloydminster and District SPCA you give a home to animal in need, reduce the chances of supporting unsrupulous breeders, you have the support of us as a society and you also have a very cost effective way of adding a new memeber to your family.

All animals adopted from the Lloydminster and District SPCA have their first set of vaccinations, free vet check from the participating vet clinics, $20.00 off coupons for spay or neuter surgery where applicable, a current City of Lloydminster license and a free membership to the SPCA for the year!
